Insulated or shell
- Insulated: warmth built in, the simple choice for cold days and children.
- Shell: a waterproof outer layer you pair with your own mid layer.
Waterproofing is measured in millimetres of water column: around 10 000 mm handles resort conditions, 20 000 mm and above suits wet snow. Breathability is measured in grams and matters as soon as you start climbing. Look for taped seams and a helmet compatible hood.
